EELS of carbon nanotubes

F.D. Tichelaar
Electron energy loss spectroscopy enables the identification of elements and determination of the binding state of these elements to their environment on a very local scale. The arrows in the figure show that measurements on a bunch of carbon nanotubes polluted with amorphous carbon give a different signal than measurements on a clean single nanotube. XANES (X-ray absorption near-edge structure) is only capable of measuring large quantities.
